Madison Police arrested Paul Curtis Aud Thursday for the attempted sexual assault of a UW-Madison student on the 100 block of Langdon Street in late August.
Aud, 33, will also be charged with battery for the Aug. 23 assault, which occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m.
According to Central District Police Commander Mary Schauf, police were able to find Aud with the help of an anonymous tip. She added that Madison detectives had been ""working very hard"" in recent weeks to apprehend him.
Aud's alleged sexual assault was the latest in a string of downtown crime throughout the spring and summer that specifically targeted UW-Madison students walking alone late at night. However, Schauf said Aud is not currently a suspect in any other downtown crimes.
Police have not released any further information about the Langdon Street assault and are holding Aud, who is from Madison, in jail indefinitely.
