Under stringent city regulations spurred by bar-time violence, Club Majestic, 115 King St., will no longer host DJs, long considered a staple of hip-hop music.
Madison Police Chief Noble Wray penned a plan for the struggling nightclub last week, under which it cannot fill to capacity if it hosts a performance that involves a DJ. Most performances involving a DJ are hip-hop acts or acts related to hip-hop.
Instead, the night club will rely primarily on entertainment not targeted by city restrictions, including rock and comedy acts.
Club Majestic, which was recently put up for sale by owners Jim and Nick Schiavo, was the epicenter of after-hours violence in the King Street area, including brawls, gunshots and one stabbing.
