After several days of deliberation, the Associated Students of Madison Student Council voted in opposition to the Wisconsin Senate Joint Resolution 53/Assembly Joint Resolution 67, the proposed ban on civil unions and marriages.
ASM's decision to oppose the proposed ban is a suggestion and message for the student body come election time in November, according to UW-Madison junior and Students for a Fair Wisconsin spokesperson Daniel Spirn.
""Students for a Fair Wisconsin feels that students at this university should care about this decision as it affects their lives and their professors' lives,"" Spirn said. ""We would never get domestic partner benefits at this university if this ban passes.""
