Regents’ proposed budget to aid low-income UW students, veterans

Besides the lowest tuition increase in 25 years, the UW System Board of Regents also proposed programs to assist veterans and low-income students as part of its 2007-'09 budget proposal announced Aug. 17.

The proposed budget titled ""A Growth Agenda for Wisconsin"" includes two proposed grants, one of which would reduce tuition costs for current UW students from low-income backgrounds, while the other would provide a 100 percent tuition waiver for state veterans, in accordance with the Wisconsin GI Bill.

The Hold Harmless Tuition Grant for current UW students aims to help those students who will be ineligible to participate in the Wisconsin Covenant, a program devised to provide financial aid for future UW System students who take college-preparatory coursework and perform well in high school.
