The Plaza Tavern is Madison's answer to Cheers. It has a strong cadre of regulars that love its friendly atmosphere—including the bartenders that gently persuade patrons to get the fuck out!\ at bartime. While many of the city's bouncers turn belligerent at 2 a.m., the Plaza staff's bellows are laced with love. The bar has a wealth of cheap drink specials including the popular Thursday $2 Long Island. A solid selection of beers is at patrons' disposal and cheap pints abound. Poor and thirsty? For a mere $4, a large half-pitcher of beer makes the drinker feel like Paul Bunyan clutching a water tower full of ale.
So come for the pool, darts, cheap drinks and sports on TV, but stick around to chat with the Plaza's sociable bartenders—until 2 a.m. that is.
