Two UW-Madison students were beaten and robbed in separate campus-area robberies late Saturday night.
The first robbery occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Frances and Langdon streets. According to police, a 19-year-old student was walking on the sidewalk when four men knocked him down and began beating him. When the student gave his attackers the cash he was carrying, they fled on foot. He was not seriously injured.
The second robbery occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m., when three men attacked a student walking on the 300 block of West Dayton Street. He too was beaten until he gave up his wallet and other valuables. The victim was not seriously injured but, like the student targeted in the earlier robbery, suffered facial injuries.
In both cases, the suspects are described as black males in their late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothes and baseball caps. Also, in both cases, suspects attacked the victims only after one member got their attention.
Police have not said whether the two robberies are connected.
