Gov. Jim Doyle is leading the largest Wisconsin delegation ever to BIO 2006 today, the world's largest biotechnology symposium in Chicago.
Joining Doyle will be stem cell pioneers Dr. James Thomson and Dr. Gabriela Cesar. The three will speak about major biotechnology developments in Wisconsin.
More than 20,000 scientists from more than 60 countries will attend the conference.
2006 marks the first time the world's largest biotechnology conference is being held in the Midwest.
Wisconsin will have 1600 square feet of exhibition space at the conference, the largest exhibition space the state has ever had.
The exhibition will feature research from UW-Madison and leading biotech companies and institutions across the state.
Wisconsin has always been on the cutting edge of biotech research, especially following the $100 million boost in funding for the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
Biotech firms contribute $6.9 billion to the state's economy, according to a statement Friday.
