Where: Wisconsin Union Theatre, Memorial Union

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

How much: $10

The Skinny: Punk band Flogging Molly are actually from L.A., but after hearing vocalist Dave King's brogue and some serious thrashing on the bodhran and uilleann pipes, you'd be forgiven for thinking they caught the last flight from Tipperary. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:45 p.m.

What: The Profits

Where: Orpheum Theatre, 216 State St.

When: Friday, 8 p.m.

How much: $10

The Skinny: The Madison Area Music Award-winning band, who opened for Violent Femmes when they came to campus last year, bring their acoustic rock to the Orpheum.

What: Brazilian music and dancing

The Skinny: Learn how to dance the samba, with free lessons from 9 to 10 p.m. including free food, and three authentic Brazilian music-playing bands: Pagee Go Go, Handphibians and Machimbombo.

What: \Big Mouth"" Spoken Word Open Mic Night

Where: Memorial Union's Main Lounge, 2nd floor

How much: free

The Skinny: Show off your floetry with five minutes of fame, with or without the house band accompanying you. Sign-up begins at 9 p.m. with readings at 9:30 p.m.

What: Cinematheque screening of F.W. Murnau's ""Phantom""

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: 4070 Vilas Hall

How much: free

The Skinny: This film, which was long thought to be lost and is otherwise unavailable in the United States, is considered to be Murnau's 'missing link' between 'Nosferatu' and 'The Last Laugh.' According to the Cinematheque website, ''Phantom' conjures up a nightmare world of sexual fixation and death.' Whoa.
