UW System out-of-state tuition rates will reduce for the 2006-2007 academic school year, according to a UW System statement.
The UW System Board of Regents approved the proposal at its Feb. 10 meeting, citing it as an initiative to attract more out-of-state students to Wisconsin.
Rates will reduce at UW-Milwaukee, the 11 UW campuses and the UW Colleges; UW-Madison's tuition rates will remain the same.
The Board of Regents also adopted a new salary range structure for UW System chancellors and executives. No executives will receive immediate raises; they will be evaluated annually for merit, and salaries will be adjusted accordingly.
Regent Charles Pruitt cited other state universities' 'embarrassingly higher' salaries as the cause of seven chancellors and two provosts leaving the UW System.
In light of recent faculty member felony convictions within the UW System, the Board also approved forwarding a proposal to campus governance groups that would require each institution's provost to launch an immediate investigation upon learning of a violation, to determine suspension, termination or maintenance of the faculty member. Investigations would be expedited, and faculty members in question could be suspended without pay.
The Board also voted to dismiss UW-Madison professor of medical physiology Roberto Coronado, due to Coronado's sexual assault convictions.
