When the \Oldboy"" DVD hit retail stores on Aug. 23, it featured not only one of cinema's more original products, but a unique contribution from UW-Madison sophomore Nikolas Pueringer. Included amongst the disc's myriad of special features, Tartan Films included Pueringer's specially-created fan trailer.
As a way of promoting the film, Tartan teamed up with online film distributor iFilm.com and created a contest where participants could create a trailer from supplied clips. The winner would receive $1,000, several Tartan films and would factor into Tartan's promotion of the DVD release. Of the 130 entries, iFilm.com users picked Pueringer's as the winner.
Pueringer took the contest rather seriously, working on his finished product nearly every day for two weeks.
""I put a lot of effort into it,"" Pueringer said. ""It took a lot of time, since you have to go through adding a level of polish to get it looking as professional as possible.""
