UW-Madison received more funding for stem-cell research Thursday in the form of a $1.25 million grant presented to a team led by James Thomson from the Los Angeles-based W.M. Keck Foundation, according to a press release.
The grant will be directed toward a three-year project focusing on the nature of embryonic stem-cell \pluripotency,"" which is the stem-cells' capacity to reproduce indefinitely while still being able to develop into any of the human body's cell types.
The grant will assist in the creation of an infrastructure that will support genet ic analysis and research on human embryonic stem-cell differentiation.
