Approximately 200 members of the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing were deployed overseas Tuesday, doubling the number of deployed unit members. They will serve as part of a 45-day contingency rotation scheduled by the United States Air Force.
With this deployment, approximately 2,000 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers and airmen are on active duty. More than 50 percent of the Guard's members have served active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, and most have completed their missions.
Maj. Gen. Al Wilkening, adjutant general of Wisconsin, Deputy Adjutant Maj. Gen. Fred Sload and 115th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Joe Brandemuehl attended the ceremony.
