The Wisconsin Badgers remained in its No. 6 spot in both polls this week but, despite their 24-12 win over Northwestern, the Badgers dropped to No. 7 in the Bowl Championship Game rankings. As UW slipped out of the No. 6 spot, Utah slid in.
The reason for all the movement is due to Purdue's loss to Michigan. Purdue's fumbling dropped their Big Ten conference record to 2-2 and their overall record to 5-2. This, in turn, hurt the Badgers' strength-of-schedule. The ever complicated BCS rankings currently shows USC in first, Oklahoma in second, Miami in third, Auburn in fourth, Florida State in fifth, Utah in sixth, Wisconsin in seventh and California occupying the final spot.
As it stands now, Wisconsin would go on to play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. to face the Golden Bears of California.
In an interesting side note, Wisconsin and Utah have two common wins in their schedule. They both defeated UNLV and Arizona, but since margin of victory does not count in the BCS poll anymore, a more telling statistic is the record of each team's opponents.
While Utah's opponent's have an overall record of 20-30 so far this year, UW's have a combined record of 24-39.
