Letters to the editor

I would like to thank the students at Witte Hall for putting on the benefit for Jason Gratzl this past Sunday. I would also like to thank the staff at Witte and the staff at UW Housing for allowing the students to work on this fundraiser and for assisting them where needed. Thank you to all who contributed towards the fundraiser (band members who offered their time and all who donated towards the raffle and the food).

I also want to thank everyone who came out on Sunday to attend the fundraiser and I also would like to extend a thanks to the entire Madison area for the many cards of encouragement we have received and the continuous monetary donations being placed into Jason's Medical Account.

The outpouring of support we are receiving from UW-Madison and the community of Madison is overwhelming and we just want to make sure that everyone knows how much we appreciate it. Thank you!

My name is Joe Schraven and I was the producer for the recent segments of \Know Your Candidates"" on the Madison City Channel.

As your aware, Dave Magnum missed his scheduled appearance. As a result, his campaign has accused myself and the station of failing to inform him of his time. However, he received a letter roughly two months prior to this debate that contained his general election debate time. Therefore, it is literally impossible he did not receive this letter due to his attendance at the primary election taping. What was most likely a simple scheduling oversight by the Magnum campaign has now been used for political slander.

Even more, accusations that the Magnum campaign has called our offices or myself without success are utterly false. Our office answering machine is checked several times a day by our station manager. No such messages were ever received by the office or myself.

Since every other primary candidate that proceeded to the general election and its concurrent taping successfully appeared and received identical letters as Magnum's, we do not feel it is fair to practice appeasement in this case. Quite simply, to offer special treatment due to a campaign's scheduling oversight would be biased and unfair.
