Recognition keeps on coming
The awards continue to amass for UW junior guard Devin Harris, as he was most recently named a John R. Wooden Award All-American by the Wooden Award Committee.
Given annually to the top ten players in the country, Harris is the first-ever recipient from Wisconsin. The top five players will be named this weekend during the Final Four in San Antonio, and then invited with their coaches to the 28th annual John R. Wooden Award ceremony in Los Angeles April 10.
The Wauwatosa native had one of the best seasons in Wisconsin basketball history, becoming the first-ever consensus Big Ten Player of the Year in school history and setting the single-season scoring mark, tallying 624 points.
\It is a privilege to be honored by such a great organization,"" Harris said. ""This is a credit to my teammates and coaches, because without them, none of this would be possible. Each player on the list had a great season and it's nice to be mentioned among such outstanding company.""
Boeser also honored
Wisconsin men's hockey tri-captain Dan Boeser was honored with the College Achievement Award at the Lee Remmel Sports Award Banquet in DePere, Wis., Thursday night.
Boeser completed the season as the top-scoring defenseman for Wisconsin with eight goals and 14 assists. He wrapped up his career last weekend, finishing with 79 points in 153 games as a Badger.
More widely known for his comeback after being diagnosed with a non-Hodgkin's form of cancer prior to his junior season, he is also one of five finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award, which will be handed out at the Frozen Four next weekend.
