Around 30 UW-Madison students, administration officials, City Council members and campus and city police officers met Monday to develop a committee which would \bridge the communication gap"" between students and the police department.
""At its core, this committee will be a constructive, open dialogue between law enforcement and the community,"" said Daniel Donoghue, Associated Students of Madison project coordinator for the committee.
The committee was formed a year and a half ago, Donoghue said, but police and administration officials ""bailed"" on the idea and it never came to fruition.
Donoghue said he reinstated the committee last semester and established this meeting as an open forum for students to voice their opinions about police relations and general personal safety.
Donoghue said the committee would consist of students, campus and city police officers, city council and community members and a seat for administration officials. Its function would be to review existing policies and suggest future initiatives.
He said he hoped a committee will be established and running by next fall.
