The body of the 18-year-old male found on Picnic Point Thursday died of self-asphyxiation, according to the office of the Dane County Coroner.
According to Deputy Coroner Gary Moore, the body was found hanging in a tree relatively quickly by a man who was studying and biking on the point that evening.
University police arrived on the scene shortly after the man flagged down a bus to report the incident.
\It was probably out there for two to four hours,"" Moore said, adding that the young man's immediate family had been notified of the incident.
The Capital Times reported that the deceased was a former Madison Memorial High School student, but not a student at UW-Madison. However, both his parents are employees of the university.
