New figures put out by the UW System show that the state could suffer $267.1 million in lost revenue if the cuts to the UW System included in the current budget reform bill come to fruition.
The amount of lost revenue was derived from a formula that assumed a $2.50 return for every $1 spent on faculty and staff wages, student spending and the purchasing of supplies. The UW System is scheduled to lose $108 million under the bill passed by state Assembly last week, but state Democratic senators have said in the past that they would not allow such a substantial cut to remain.
Once passed by the Legislature, the two different versions of the bill will be ironed out in a conference committee before being passed on to Gov. Scott McCallum for final approval.
