Survey: Dane teens drinking above average

Local youth reported binge drinking at a higher level than the average teen-ager, according to the results of a 2000 survey.

The study shows that 35 percent of Dane County high school students binge drank at least once a month. A little less than a third of teen-agers nationwide said they binge drank in a study released last week.

Girls must drink four consecutive alcoholic beverages to be defined as binge drinkers, while boys must consume five drinks.
