Regents give UW System faculty pay hikes

The Executive Committee of the UW System Board of Regents approved annual salary levels for the chancellors, vice chancellors and senior officers of the UW System Monday.

UW System President Katharine Lyall's salary tops the list of salaries at $299,000 for the 2001-'02 fiscal year. UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley and UW-Madison Provost Peter Spear receive the highest salaries of UW System chancellors and provosts with $298,250 and $220,000 for 2001-'02, respectively.

According to Board President Jay Smith, the salary increases will not result in higher tuition or taxes since they are funded by existing pay plans and money reallocated from the base budget.

The pay raises bring UW executive salaries more in line with the competitive national market for university leadership, Smith said, and are intended to ensure the attraction of top executive talent.
