Deadline approaches for city, county candidates

Madison residents who are 18 years of age and have lived in their respective districts for at least 10 days can start gathering nomination signatures Dec. 1 for the Dane County Board and the District 5 City Council elections in April.

Although 2002 will be an off year for Council elections, District 5 will be up for grabs because the elected candidate, Jessy Tolkan, declined to take the seat last April.

According to Madison Assistant City Clerk Sharon Christensen, potential candidates can pick up informational packets at the City County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Petitioners must receive a minimum of 20 signatures and a maximum of 40 to be declared eligible for the elections.
