A body was found Thursday near the west shore of Lake Mendota shortly before 1 p.m., Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain said in an incident report.

The body was discovered by a City of Madison Parks' employee near Marshall Park, located at 2101 Allen Boulevard.

Officials have not said whether the person found was man or woman.

MPD, Middleton Police and the Dane County Sheriff's Office are working with the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office on the case.

"It will be up to the Medical Examiner to release the name of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death," DeSpain said.
