The first critical assessment of changes in teacher compensation published in Wisconsin since Act 10 was released this fall in a study by the Wisconsin Center for Education Research.
The study compares different teacher pay systems in districts across the state and reviews the way they have adjusted to the budget flexibility and uncertainty caused by Act 10.
“There has been considerable talk about compensation changes in Wisconsin, but very little solid information on what was happening,” said Steve Kimball, a principle investigator of the Wisconsin Evaluative Collaborative and Consortium for Policy Research in Wisconsin, in a Tuesday university press release.
In addition to providing new data, this study also includes questions for districts considering changes in their teacher compensation strategies.
“We hope the study fills an information gap in the state and provides guidance for school districts and other stakeholders,” Kimball said.
