Colleges need to focus less on students’ exam scores when making admission decisions
By Patrick Johnson | Apr. 28, 2009Colleges face the unfortunate reality that they cannot accept every student that applies, which effectually creates a competition for the seats the college can offer. In any competition, the participants can only hope for an equal opportunity to compete. Recently, the University of California school system has revised their admission process by dropping the requirement that applicants take two SAT II subject tests, and have lowered the number of automatic acceptances based on grades and standardized test scores (to take effect at the start of the 2012 school year).
