Record Routine: Braids provides breath of fresh air on Deep in the Iris

Once again with the release of their third full-length album, Deep in the Iris, Braids have continued with their tradition of being non-traditional. The majority of the songs on this album were written in locations across the United States that foster to the members’ creativity, from a cabin in the mountains of rural Arizona to a Walden-esque homestead in Vermont. These serene environments helped contribute to the shift once again in musical style. Deep in the Iris abandons the thick electronics and instead capitalizes on gripping song topics and a more organic use of piano and rhythm.

Record Routine: Death Grips come out with potential last album fall flat

Death Grips, an experimental hip-hop group from Sacramento, California has received critical acclaim from most sources with the release of their previous three studio albums. Though they have technically been disbanded since last July, that has not stopped them from making music. Jenny Death, the second part of a two-part album called The Powers That B, is now available online and is set for official release March 31.

Label change gives Twin Shadow a clean, crisp sound on Eclipse

When George Lewis Jr., the man behind Twin Shadow, sat down to interview with Stereogum’s Ryan Leas, he revealed he has been through some tumultuous experiences over the last few years. From the death of three close friends, to the admittance of his father to a mental institution, Lewis definitely has accumulated some emotional baggage. Instead of allowing these conflicts to cause a bottleneck in his artistry, he has used them to spark a new flame in his musical career.
