100 years later: Vitamin A’s birthday

Anyone who eats ice cream, eggs, mango or sweet potato is getting some of their necessary intake of Vitamin A. Even pumpkin pie contains Vitamin A. Because Vitamin A is found in many different foods, either naturally or supplemented, the consequences of not having enough are rarely a topic of discussion.

Federal loan availability for college students fails to match tuition increases

Faced with declining levels of state funding and higher operating costs, universities across the country are increasing tuition to maintain sustainable operations. But another trend follows nationwide at colleges such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where some students rely on higher-interest private loans to fund their way through college because federal loans have not kept up with tuition hikes.

Ward comments on UW surplus funds

Following a statewide uproar after a legislative audit revealed the University of Wisconsin System held $1 billion in cash balances as of last June, UW-Madison Chancellor David Ward released additional details in a statement Thursday about where the extra funds will be used at the university.

UW nuclear fusion celebrates milestone

Nuclear fusion education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has reached a major milestone after the graduation of the 400th Ph.D. student since the start of the program in 1963. While the number of people researching nuclear fusion is relatively small at UW-Madison, the university is consistently one of the strongest fusion programs in the country.
