The Badgers’ stellar start to the 2017 campaign continued this past weekend in Fort Myers, Fla., at the Sheraton Invitational.
The Badgers are clearly enjoying being away from the frigid Madison weather. Wisconsin softball, playing in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational in Clearwater, Florida, wrapped up their second of three consecutive series in the Sunshine State with success this past weekend.
The Badgers opened their season with a bang last week in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic, coming away with a perfect 4-0 record.
It was a year of overachievement for the Wisconsin softball team (11-11-1 Big Ten, 28-24-1 overall), as they won at least one game against every conference opponent they played in the regular season.
When it comes to archetypes, sports are chock-full of them. There’s the tall but slow center in basketball, the loud, team-leading middle linebacker in football and the low average, power-hitting catcher in softball and baseball.
After a 10-game home stand, Wisconsin (3-10 Big Ten, 18-23 overall) heads to Champaign this weekend for a three-game series against Illinois (8-4, 18-21).
Wisconsin (13-13 overall) will look to carry the momentum from last weekend’s strong four-win performance into Big Ten play. The Badgers begin their conference season in a three-game series at Purdue (19-9) this weekend.
In the last tournament before the conference schedule begins, the Wisconsin Badgers (9-12 overall) will look to continue their momentum following last weekend’s success with five games in the College of Charleston Invitational in Charleston, N.C., starting Friday.
The Badgers continued their strong start to the fall, using a seven-run third inning to defeat Highland College 12-0 in five innings Friday night at Goodman Softball Complex.
Wisconsin had its record-tying win streak snapped at the hands of Nebraska Wednesday at Goodman Diamond, but the Badgers did not allow the loss to loom over them for long.
To put it simply, winning is The Daily Cardinal way.
If The Daily Cardinal can boast any one achievement in its 122-year history, it is winning. Athleticism, wit and the capacity to imbibe liquids are institutional assets long embodied by the sexiest and smartest newspaper on campus.

There is something about playing at Goodman Diamond that just seems right for the Wisconsin softball team.
After a rocky start to its conference schedule, Wisconsin has the opportunity to finish among the top teams in the Big Ten.
While Madison is as cold and snowy as ever, the softball team is heating up, spending its last two weekends in the Sunshine State to open up their 2014 season.
The Wisconsin softball team took the field against Illinois State Saturday in a pair of fall exhibition games, winning 3-0 and 3-2.
For anyone who has suffered through a cold, drawn-out Wisconsin winter, there is little to brag about when describing the weather in the Midwest. While walking more than a quarter of a mile outside in early February is often a challenge, battling the harsh conditions of an often non-existent spring proves to be even more difficult for softball players. Such an unforgiving climate makes for a few months of almost solely indoor practices and numerous cross-country road trips for the Wisconsin softball team.
There are certain things you come to expect in life. Lindsay Lohan getting arrested. Dubstep making your head pound. A less-than-pleasant bathroom experience after Taco Bell (but that second gordita crunchwrap supreme was so worth it).
