Words like violence break the ’Silence’ in Grafton’s latest
By Dan Wohl | Jan. 27, 2006Sue Grafton's alphabetical mysteries have given the public much more than easy soundbite templates for critics since the awesome, amazing, astonishing 'A is for Alibi' first came out in 1982. Millions of readers have followed the pulpish adventures of southern California's spunkiest female private investigator, Kinsey Millhone, in 'Alibi's' 18 sequels. The latest, 'S is for Silence,' disappointingly shows that Kinsey's enduring character power is simply not enough to hold interest when Grafton cannot come up with an interesting plot. 'Silence' struggles to succeed, simply short-changing the reader with a severely sub-par story. (Sorry.)
Ironically, late to ’The Late Show’
By Andrew Haffner and Jon Steffen | Jan. 27, 2006I will always remember that scorching Wednesday last August when I visited my friend in The Big Apple. Bean bibs introduced me to his 70-pound, 3-foot-tall Persian greyhound Rupert, Grasser (a friend of mine) and I walked down Broadway to check out Times Square.

Jan. 27, 2006Even if it has been 40 degrees outside, it's still the middle of January and spring break is a long ways off. That's where Katie and Rob come in as travel assistants at the Memorial Union Travel Center. This year Katie will be off to Jamaica to soak up some Red Stripe and Pina Coladas (hopefully not at the same time, that's so gross) while Dan will travel to Amsterdam. When asked what else he'll do in Amsterdam Dan had 'no comment' for the DC. Well travelistas, best of luck in your debauchery.
