Cook’s attorneys, Chris Van Wagner and Jessa Nicholson, wrote in a bail motion that prosecutors are citing the seriousness of the charges for the bail being so high. Cook’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 27, but prosecutors requested the date be moved back due to case detectives not being able to make the hearing. Cook’s lawyers agreed to the delay, Assistant District Attorney Colette Sampson said when she made the request.
A man reportedly swindled a UW-Madison student out of two expensive pairs of pants during a transaction at Five Guys on State Street last week. After the student posted on Facebook’s Marketplace Community advertising designer jeans for sale, the suspect, who claimed to be from Baraboo, offered $100 for each pair.

In the aftermath of a recent car theft, the Madison Police Department urged residents to exercise caution. A Dane County woman’s body was the only one found in or near an SUV submerged in Lake Mendota near the Spring Harbor Park boat launch. Dane County Medical Examiner Director of Operations Barry Irmen identified the victim as Julie B. Metcalfe of Fitchburg Monday night. She was 51. According to the Madison Fire Department, around 7:30 a.m. Monday the report of the submerged SUV came in.
Madison Police Department officers arrested Mirko Milicevic, 31, on alleged substantial battery charges after a bar fight broke out in the Red Rock Saloon on West Johnson Street around 2 a.m.
