Saturday's Badger game against Buffalo is bittersweet. Wisconsin
fans have to say goodbye to their veteran players, but at the same
time they can remember the accomplishments UW's seniors reached and
the contributions they made both on and off the field.

The UW men's basketball team earned a victory over Mercer Sunday
that may have previewed what the rest of the season will look like.
Although both senior forward Alando Tucker and senior point guard
Kammron Taylor carried the load in scoring, one of the more
important facets of the game was the depth of UW's bench.

The UW football team will ride into Iowa City on a high after
winning six straight games and falling to Michigan early in the
year. However, over the last few seasons, UW has not had much
success when playing the Hawkeyes. In fact, the Badgers have been
on the losing side of the ball four consecutive seasons in a row.

When a team loses two players from a single position to the NFL,
one would expect that it would take at least one season to rebuild.
That, however, is not the case for the UW tight ends who have
proved they can pick up right where former Badgers Owen Daniels and
Jason Pociask left off. Both sophomore Travis Beckum and junior
Andy Crooks have filled a major void coming into this season.
Maybe, most surprisingly has been the great play of Beckum. He is
the team's leading receiver with 577 yards on an offense that is
headed in the right direction. Outside of a rough first half in
last week's come from behind victory, the UW offense has steadily
improved as each week comes and goes.

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND.—On an absolutely beautiful day for
football, the UW defense turned it into an ugly day for the
Boilermaker offense. Purdue only accumulated 106 total yards in the
first half as the Badgers held Purdue to only three points en route
to a 24-3 victory in West Lafayette Saturday.

After all was said and done in Columbus this weekend, the UW
women's hockey team tallied two more wins, adding to their already
school record of consecutive wins which now stands at 18. It was
not easy, by any means, as the Badgers held onto a 3-2 victory
Friday night, and had to fight from behind in order to come back
and win 3-2 Saturday.

Coming into the season, one of the main questions facing the UW
football team was how they were going to replace stud running back
Brian Calhoun. As we all know, Calhoun decided to forego what would
have been his senior season and declared himself eligible for the
2006 NFL Draft.

A little more than six months ago, the UW women's hockey team
defeated rival Minnesota 3-0 to win their first national
championship as a program. This past weekend, they picked up right
where they left off defeating Quinnipiac 3-0 and 5-1.

There are a number of different reasons that fall is the best
season of the year. For the defending national champion women's
hockey team, it is the time of the year that they will embark upon
a journey in hopes of winning another banner that will grace the
rafters of the Kohl Center.

few days, it was unable to halt the 2006 Badger Invitational held

As the final buzzer sounded, and the players rushed the ice in
hysteric celebration the University of Wisconsin achieved something
unprecedented. The UW women's hockey team was crowned national
champion Sunday afternoon at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. With
sophomore Jinelle Zaugg's two goals, and another insurance goal
netted by senior Grace Hutchins, the Badgers (36-4-1) were able to
defeat the two-time defending national champion Minnesota Gophers
(29-11-1) 3-0.

After coming out of this past weekend series against rival
Minnesota with one win and one loss, the Wisconsin women's hockey
team (20-3-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 25-4-1 overall)
locked up its first ever WCHA regular season title. The team
originally needed two wins by themselves to win the conference but
after a surprising loss at North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth helped
the Badgers clinch the title with only one win.
