After delaying his address by a week due to the upheaval at the
Capitol, Gov. Scott Walker will announce the biennial budget
Tuesday, and UW-Madison could be one of many state institutions
facing drastic cuts and changes.

For the team,
Wednesday evening's game against Indiana is a pivotal match that
very well could decide whether Wisconsin goes dancing again in
March, or stays home.

Here's a question: If you were stranded on a desert island and
could only listen to three records for the rest of your life, which
would they be? I think about this myself a lot, and sometimes I ask
other people their answers to make up for my inability to make
substantial conversation with other people.

The dispute over bus parking on Langdon Street near Memorial Union
was the topic of debate at the Transit and Parking Commission
meeting Tuesday night.

While students at UW-Madison reveled in their snow day glory
Tuesday night, Wisconsin state legislators took refuge in the
Capitol to listen to Gov. Scott Walker's first State of the State
address. The governor used the stage to praise his legislators,
promote smaller government and, of course, cheer on the Green Bay
Packers.

You know what they say—""Mo' money, mo' problems."" I've had
considerably more experience with the opposite, though, and I can
personally attest that the logic still holds—""No money, mo'
problems."" Being wealthy certainly has its hang-ups (where on
EARTH will you even park that thing?!), but the same is
true for people who are forced into buying knockoff ramen noodles
and stealing kitchenware from local taverns.

Carrying a seven-game unbeaten streak, the Wisconsin women's soccer
team (4-3-4) travels to Minnesota (9-1-2) Thursday night to take on
the No. 15 Gophers. The match projects as a classic duel between a
high-powered Minnesota attack and a solid Wisconsin defense.

Based on the title and cover art, it's obvious Maroon 5 is trying
to be bold with their latest album, Hands All Over.
Unfortunately, the album is anything but. Contrary to its
provocative title, there is an unexpected somber tone for a
majority of the album's songs. Instead of pushing into new
territory, the entire album feels like 12 interpretations of the
same song. The pop band seems to have run out of creative juice,
selling uninspired songs that any chum off the street could have
written. Fortunately, there are a few songs that are good enough to
be associated with their once respected musical reputation, and
they deserve more attention than the rest.

UW-Madison student Ellie Kahn and her roommates knew they had a
problem when they found bedbugs in their downtown apartment. They
moved out claiming the apartment was untenantable. They now face a
bigger problem. Tenants are not protected under state statute or
city ordinance for pest-control problems unless they can prove the
infestation is a severe health hazard.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, bringing needed
attention to the issue. However, I don't think sexual assault is
something we should be thinking about and fighting against just one
month out of the year. As a nation, we need to be fighting against
societal notions of gender and the violence pervasive in American
culture that leads to sexual assault. Gone are the days when women
were taught that sexual assault was confined to serial rapists in
dark alleys. Today we know that the majority of sexual assault
occurs between acquaintances in perceived ""safe"" locals. Sexual
assault occurs in marriages and committed relationships. Women (and
men) are battered and forced to have sex with someone who is
supposed to love them.

I haven't spoiled the crap out of ""Lost"" here in a while, so
commence your groaning and flip to the comics if you're still back
in season three waiting for Sawyer and Kate to get out of the
cages. We're coming up on the halfway point in the final season of
""Lost,"" and every week fans and critics gripe about the fact that
much of each episode thus far has been dedicated to flashes of the
""Sideways world,"" a what-if dimension where, in addition to
Oceanic 815 safely landing in L.A., aspects of each former
castaway's life are just a little different. Jack has a son and
keeps finding weird scars on his body. Hurley thinks he's the
luckiest guy in the world, not cursed. And apparently Ben is a good
guy.

If you are choosing to see a movie with the title ""Valentine's
Day,"" you have to be aware of the quality that you can expect from
it. This star-studded chick flick, directed by Garry Marshall,
opened in a transparently opportunistic fashion, just in time for
the holiday of the same name. When watched with low expectations
and a complete detachment from reality, the film offers exactly
what it promises to provide—a superficial distraction from the
concept of real life without any lingering impression.

Gov. Jim Doyle dropped another hint Wednesday morning about the
possibility of a federally funded high-speed rail line that would
go through the Madison area.

Last night, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin returned
to action after serving a two-game suspension for an illegal hit he
laid on the Carolina Hurricanes' Tim Gleason. While it is good to
see a superstar like Ovechkin finally serve some time for bending
and breaking the rules, his suspension sheds light on the NHL's
spotty discipline policy.

Wisconsin wraps up its exhibition schedule tonight against an
in-state rival. Not Marquette, not UW-Milwaukee, not even UW-Green
Bay. Instead, UW-Superior will travel from the northern tip of
Wisconsin to Madison to face the Badgers.
