UW-Madison Dean of Students Luoluo Hong will officially conclude
her employment at UW-Madison to pursue a career opportunity at
Arizona State University in Glendale. Hong had been working as dean
of students since Nov. 1, 2002 and oversaw much of the
reorganization of the Office of Student Affairs after Vice
Chancellor Paul Barrows took an extended leave of absence last
school year. In her resignation she cited Wisconsin's \lack of
commitment"" to education as a contributing factor.

Since UW-Madison's first class met Feb. 5, 1849, the university
has only grown-in square feet, students, faculty, majors and public
involvement. Growing is still the top priority, according to
UW-Madison Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning and

Architecture Gary Brown, as they unveiled the draft of the
UW-Madison Campus Master Plan Tuesday at the Wisconsin Alumni

Kassie Hauser is fully clothed in winter gear, from warm boots

The special teams play of the Wisconsin men's hockey team (7-3-0
Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 10-4-0 overall) has been
outstanding halfway through the season. However, the team has done
nothing extra to increase its level of play.

On Oct. 26, 2001, Lisa Zukowski, a former starter on the
Wisconsin women's volleyball team, was forced to leave the game and
season with an injury. Head Coach Pete Waite could not wait long to
find a replacement, needing a capable athlete in a matter of
seconds. He chose freshman outside hitter Jill Odenthal to take
Zukowski's place. Waite chose well, as Odenthal has been a
consistent starter and force since she was unexpectedly forced into
the lineup three years ago.

With preseason over, the Badger men's basketball team puts its
28-game home winning streak on the line as they face the University
of Pennsylvania Saturday. Last year's 64-53 season-opening victory
against Penn gave the then-No. 15 Badgers a positive jump into the
rest of the season.

Imagine this: It's not yet dawn on Lake Mendota and you have
been sitting in a boat, soaked to the bone, for more than an hour
and a half. The temperature is a brisk 40 degrees-not including the
wind chill factor--which is slapping across your face with the
force of a paddle in the water. After two hours, you are finally
finished and the only thing you want to do is sit where it's warm
and shower before class.

Even though the Wisconsin women's volleyball team will still
focus on its performance until the season ends, the Badger spikers
are already preparing for a the start of a new season, as two
players signed national letters of intent yesterday.

For the first time since Oct. 8, the Wisconsin volleyball team
(10-4 Big Ten, 16-6 overall) sailed into uncharted waters, losing
for the first time in a month to No. 25 Illinois last Friday. This
weekend, Wisconsin travels to State College, Penn. and Columbus,
Ohio-hopefully mapping wins against No. 4 Penn State (12-2, 21-2)
and No. 8 Ohio State (12-2, 22-2).

Robbie Earl is hot. Eight games into the season, Earl, a
sophomore forward on the Wisconsin men's hockey team, has been
cooling off opponents this year, and is tied for the team lead with
12 points. He has helped his team skate to a 3-3-0 record in
Western Collegiate Hockey Association conference play, a 5-3-0
overall record and the No. 6 ranking. This weekend, he hopes to
continue his hot streak when the Badgers take on No. 5 North Dakota
in a heated rivalry battle.

Parents will begin driving and flying into Madison for Parents'
Weekend Saturday, meaning a majority of UW-Madison students will ax
their alternative weekend plans to spend it with mom and pop. On
the agenda for many families is the annual football match between
Wisconsin (5-0 Big Ten, 8-0 overall) and Minnesota (3-3, 6-3), in
which the team's \Battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe."" Minnesota, the
underdog, hopes not to be bullied by the Badgers.

It is common for teams to let down and fail to continue building
momentum following a huge win. However, the Wisconsin women's
volleyball team (10-3 Big Ten, 16-5 overall), which upset then-No.
2 Minnesota Oct. 30, passed the test by sweeping the Northwestern
Wildcats (3-10, 8-15) in front of 3,935 fans at the Field House
Wednesday night.

At intermission of this Saturday's Halloween Bash, a break from
the contest between Wisconsin's women's volleyball team (7-3 Big
Ten, 13-5 overall) and No. 2 Minnesota (9-1, 20-2), a costume
contest will be held for fans that dressed up. ESPN2 will broadcast
live from the Field House, and all fans covered in a costume
receive free admission.
