At a small Catholic high school near Antwerp, Belgium, a 6-foot-10 basketball player took classes heavily based on discussion and conversation. In Bournemouth, England, 325 miles to the west, a tennis star in the making left his hometown, known for its stretch of beaches on the northern shore of the English Channel, for a small boarding school in Surrey. And across the Atlantic Ocean, in the urban hub of Toronto, Canada, another basketball stalwart more than a foot shorter than her Dutch counterpart attended a private school which, combined with an adjoining public school, had a total enrollment of about 4,000 students.

After his first full offseason as head coach at Wisconsin, Paul Chryst introduced his 2016 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers welcomed 31 recruits on National Signing Day, 25 of whom will have scholarships. As expected, and contrary to many other programs, UW’s signing day was drama-free.

Minneapolis, Minn. - Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda doesn’t crack. Even among the most torrid of situations, Aranda remains even-keeled and calm, always focused on fine-tuning a defensive unit that has established itself as one of the best in the country. It narrowly survived the tight confines of Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa and cruised in the battle of Paul Bunyan’s Axe the following week, earning a date with Ohio State at Lucas Oil Stadium.

NFL fans were treated Sunday to a free live stream on Yahoo of the Bills and Jaguars battling it out at Wembley Stadium in London. It’s usually a relief not having to watch the Jaguars play until after Sunday morning breakfast, potentially the best meal of the week, but Jacksonville and Buffalo actually put on a good show and represented the League well in Europe.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – When redshirt junior quarterback Joel Stave left the game with a head injury late in the first quarter, redshirt junior Bart Houston was thrust into an uncomfortable spot. He came into the game having only thrown 13 passes in his entire Wisconsin career before Saturday, and had never played during meaningful game situations.

Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda self-admittedly has a difficult time talking about what his defense does well. Like most people who strive for continual improvement through intense intrinsic criticism, Aranda seems to be more at ease discussing what he can do better, rather than what he’s achieved. That notion spans the entirety of the defense, and it also applies to his evaluation of the individual cogs that make it run.

On any given Saturday in the fall, Camp Randall Stadium is typically packed to the brim. That’s not necessarily the case at kickoff, which students usually miss because they’re busy cashing the keg at their buddy’s cousin’s girlfriend’s pregame on Breese Terrace, but they get there eventually. By about midway through the second quarter, most of the student section finally joins its already-seated Camp Randall cohorts, who come from both nearby and the far reaches of Wisconsin to cheer on the Badgers.
