WiscAlert texting a good first step
In light of both the Virginia Tech shootings and the Brittany Zimmermann murder, UW-Madison officials have implemented the WiscAlert-Text system to warn students of possible emergencies on campus. The new text alert system was also influenced heavily by the lack of communication during the Jesse Miller incident earlier this academic year.
Perfectly 'Smart' comedy
Brains aren't everything. Smart People"" offers a father/daughter pair of misanthropic academics as they come to terms with their humanity. From the same people who brought ""Sideways"" to theaters, this highbrow comedy banks on superb character sketching and a solid cast to deliver a comedy that manages to make even the most self-involved characters likeable in the end.

Poise. Pain. Passion.
The room was almost silent, completely absent of all sounds typical of a university classroom setting. There were no backpack zippers. No dropping lecture trays. No papers shuffling. Spring into shape!
I have never been a fan of fitness classes. After laughing myself out of Hip Hop Mania and getting too busy to keep up with Group Strength in past years, I decided to stick to the treadmill and Lakeshore paths instead. But after hearing friends talk about how much they love classes at the Southeast Recreational Facility and the Natatorium, I decided to give them another chance.
On Cloud Nine,'UW returns to old form
During the reign of the five seniors on the No. 5 men's hockey team (17-8-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 23-9-3 overall), the Badgers have always backed into the playoffs, losing key games at the very end of the season. But things changed this weekend, as the seniors and a resurgent Brian Elliott led the way in a sweep of No. 19 St. Cloud State (13-13-2, 18-4-4) that was reminiscent of the first half of the season.
Willis is back with another one of those 'Block'rocking beats
Bruce Willis always plays the same character in every movie he stars in, but his 16 Blocks\ character is much more intriguing than usual. The captivatingly unique concept of this film is that he is a bad cop, but transitions from a bad guy to a good guy very early. Jack Mosley (Willis) is a drunk, lazy cop who is involved in a very corrupt group of cops with the NYPD. Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) needs to be taken to the courthouse within two hours so he can testify against the corrupt cops, and Jack has to be the one to take him the 16 blocks to get there.

The Pixies showcase a little rust and a lot of love
It is hard to describe the anticipation the crowd at Minneapolis' Fine Line music venue felt Tuesday night as they waited for the Pixies to play their first show in nearly 12 years. On one hand, the lucky fans understood they were privy to one of the most historic concert events of the past decade. On the other, however, an unspoken fear lingered that the show would be a disaster, making the band's improbable reunion a short-lived one.
