At Monday's Faculty Senate meeting, the UW Division of
Recreational Sports proposed an immediate update to the Natatorium,
and a renovation of the SERF by 2017. According to the board, both
facilities are outdated and too small to meet student demands. The
estimated cost of renovating the Nat alone is $60 million dollars,
and the proposal calls for a $60 increase in student's segregated
fees for an undisclosed period of time.

Two weekends ago, the Stadium Bar came under fire from Madison
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Ald. Robbie Webber, District 5, for
posting their phone numbers, in addition to Ald. Julia Kerr,
District 13, on a large screen television monitor outside after the
Oct. 11 football game against Penn State. Posting these numbers
resulted in many drunk dials"" from the bar's patrons.

Randall, Badger fans. UW officials are publicizing the homecoming
game as the Big Ten's first ""carbon neutral"" football game ever.
The event aims to raise awareness about the problematic dependence
on carbon-emitting energy, as well as encouraging recycling and

On Monday night, the Student Services Financial Committee
approved funding eligibility for the Roman Catholic foundation.
Originally requesting $211,970 of the General Student Services Fund
- comprised of student's segregated fees - SSFC made several cuts
to RCF's proposed budget overall, granting $167,586 for the next
academic year.

Yesterday, Madison parks community relations coordinator Laura
Whitmore announced that the Obama campaign will not be visiting
Madison Thursday. The cancellation is due to the deteriorating
health of Obama's grandmother, according to his campaign.

The Greek Judicial Board recently punished Sigma Phi Epsilon for
their actions last spring, when buckets of human waste were
allegedly dumped on fraternity members. For the next semester,
SigEp is on social probation, which prevents them from hosting any
official social events.

On Friday, Oct. 3, UW Band director Mike Leckrone and Dean of
Students Lori Berquam announced the suspension of the band amidst
hazing allegations. Six days later allegations were confirmed, and
the suspension was lifted, under the provision that the band would
not travel for the time being,"" according to Berquam. Six days
later, that restriction was lifted as well. See a pattern
emerging?

Last week, a number of student organizations attempted to
protest, as well as question U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., as
she spoke at an interactive panel for youth involvement and
political issues. The student organizations, including the Campus
Antiwar Network, the International Socialists Organization and
Students for Nader, fervently question Baldwin's decision to
support the economic bailout plan in congress.

This week, The Associated Students of Madison will hold two more
listening sessions for students. Like the listening sessions held
at the beginning of the month, representatives will present the
first draft of the revised ASM constitution and allow students to
offer feedback regarding the proposed changes.

The high-pressure, complicated and often overwhelming life of a
collegiate athlete creates a difficult atmosphere for learning and
career planning, especially when the majority of athletes will not
be going on to a professional sport. However, UW-Madison admirably
supports its student-athletes in a variety of ways, and
student-athletes must do their share to honor the academic
commitment of which they are a part.

On Sept. 12, UW-Madison joined 500 campuses nationwide on
JuicyCampus.com. The site allows people to anonymously post about a
particular university, its students, Greek organizations,
stereotypes and other university-related subjects.

Last April, a late-night taxi stand began as a pilot project to
serve Madison's nightlife on Fridays and Saturdays. On Friday, city
officials announced that funding for the project has run dry, and
the three cab companies involved in the stand would not fund the
project. Without alternative funding, the program will discontinue
at the end of the month.

planned listening sessions to discuss the first draft of a revised
constitution. Committee members were quick to criticize the current
state of ASM in proposing a three-tiered governance system.

Recently, the Walgreens located in University Square featured a
display with plastic cups and ping-pong balls located suspiciously
close together. Although the products were packaged separately, a
parent voiced concern to UW Dean of Students Lori Berquam, arguing
the display condoned binge drinking, as plastic cups and ping pong
balls are the main components of beer pong, a popular drinking
game. Berquam called the establishment, and the manager quickly
removed the display and has since taken full responsibility for the
incident.

series of events intended to emphasize improving conservation
across the university. WeConserve's target goal is reduce campus
energy consumption per square foot by 20 percent by year
