In the opening series of the inaugural Big Ten hockey season, the Wisconsin men’s hockey team (2-0-0) wasted no time defending its No. 3 ranking as it took on Northern Michigan (0-2-0) this weekend at the Kohl Center, earning 5-2 and 2-1 victories over the the Wildcats in its first home-opening sweep since 2004.

Last week, FX’s hit series “Sons of Anarchy” aired its Season 6 premiere to landmark numbers. Despite what even the creator of the show admitted was a disturbing episode, “Sons of Anarchy” drew in 8.32 million viewers in its 10 p.m. time slot, setting a record for any show on FX. Packed into the hour were guns, rape and other multitudes of gross, sometimes downright squeamish scenes. So it’s no surprise that immediately following the premiere, the Parents Television Council blasted the network and creator for airing such an offensive and insensitive episode. Oh, here we go.

After falling 58-48 to No. 18 Purdue in a Valentine’s Day match-up, the Badger women’s basketball team (3-9 Big Ten, 11-14 overall) heads to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois (7-4, 14-9) Monday night. This is the second game between the two teams in just over two weeks, with Illinois beating the Badgers 64-56 at the Kohl Center Feb. 3.
