This past Saturday at approximately 10, with a guy in a bro tank to my left and a girl in jewels to my right, I was in the dimly lit Majestic. The opener was about to come on, and I was ready to make the most of the few precious hours of syllabus week that I had left. Those hours were filled with three fantastic EDM producers armed with laptops and an ear for house music: Madison’s own Affair, followed by Denver-based Illenium and finally, Chill Harris.

Coming off their most emotional sweep in recent memory, upending No. 3 Minnesota (11-3-0 WCHA, 15-3-0 overall), the top-ranked and unblemished Wisconsin Badger women’s hockey team (12-0-0, 18-0-0) will face another dangerous test this weekend when they travel to Ralph Engelstad Arena to face-off versus No. 9 North Dakota (6-4-2 WCHA, 10-6-2 overall). The last time the two met was in the 2015 WCHA semifinal, which the Badgers won 4-1 to advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off championship game.

The end of anything is perhaps as inevitable as the beginning of another—everything, at some point or another, comes to an end. Be it natural or forced, ends are one of the most inevitable things we can always count on. They’re either a savior from monotony, a respite from misery or a source of grief for something long gone and that we once held dear. Endings are as much a real part of our world and who we are as perhaps the world itself. And so, as we enter the last month, preparing ourselves for the end of 2015, we’re all left asking ourselves questions that obviously concern no one but us: What does this end mean for us?

Hopefully Thanksgiving break left us feeling thankful for at least a couple of things. A loving family, good friends and no unwanted pregnancies topped my list this year. Considering the fact that according to the Guttmacher Institute 51 percent of U.S. pregnancies are unplanned, it’s no joke to be thankful for being baby-free. While there are tons of methods out there to prevent pregnancy, there are some that are more suited to collegiate life than others.

Whether or not certain Wisconsinites have the right to vote has been unclear ever since Voter ID laws were put in place for the first time more than four years ago. From then on, the laws have been in flux, with voter ID requirements being proven unconstitutional by a Dane County Circuit Court judge, then reinstated by a federal appeals court, then blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court, and finally reestablished as state law this past spring.

I walked into Mr. Brews Taphouse not expecting much, but within an hour I was able to walk out of the bar satisfied and smiling. Based on the look of the venue, the selection of beers and the friendly service of the bartender, I recommend the bar to anyone who enjoys a simple and fun night.

In light of the terrorist attacks in Paris, conservative America chomped at the bit to try and use the tragedy to rationalize why we shouldn’t invite Syrian refugees into our nation. Without waiting for all of the details of the horrific event to come out (including the fact that the attacks were primarily executed by European nationals), conservatives had already made up their minds that opening our country to refugees is to invite the Islamic State to our doorstep.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine over the summer about what upcoming albums I was most excited about. Obviously, albums from Drake, Kanye West and Frank Ocean—where is it Frank?—were on my list, but so was Raury. Earlier this year, Raury said that he would release his first album as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed mixtape, “Indigo Child.” Raury, a 19-year-old from an Atlanta suburb, made a grand entrance into the music scene when he released the artful and powerful music video to “Indigo Child” singles, “God’s Whisper.” He gained public notoriety, but also from figures inside the industry such as André 3000 and Kanye West.

The class clown; not the cool one that has the good jokes or even the one that does stupid stuff that makes everyone laugh. No, I speak of the sub-variety of this personality that sits in the back of the class and has a comment for everything. Someone you want to tell to take a long walk off a short pier, but you know they thrive on any attention. So, you are forced to grind your teeth, smile, and watch as the second hand crawls across the clock face, leisurely strolling towards your freedom.

Apple Inc. was recently ordered to pay the University of Wisconsin $234 million for infringing on a patent. Although this is far lower than the original reported $862 million, it’s still a substantial sum. Much of the money will presumably go back to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and be reinvested in research. But why not consider some more fun options.
