Everyone has that ex. The one who can't let go, the one who
moves on a little too quickly or the one who has that creepy voodoo
doll made of your used chewing gum and some of your hair. While my
ex hasn't reached the dark magic level of creepiness yet, he still
manages to rank high on the insanity factor.

Call me crazy, but despite the number of summer-movie classics
2008 has begotten, I am not sad to see moviegoing season go by the
wayside. The reason? Movie audiences are REALLY annoying. Here are
four inept moviegoers that have soured my theater enjoyment this
summer:

Heartbreak is not something I am very fond of, but it is
something I come to expect from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Okkervil River never shy away from the grandiose. Their latest
release, The Stand Ins, is the second half to their
previous album, The Stage Names. When lined up vertically, the
cover art of the two combine to make one larger image. Viewed
independently, though, each image is more representative of its
album's themes.

Recent superhero movies haven't exactly run the emotional gamut.
From Spider-Man's angst to Batman's brooding, too many heroes seem
to loathe the powers and abilities audiences would give their
Lassos of Truth to possess. In Iron Man,"" however, Robert Downey
Jr. and Director Jon Favreau have made a superhero movie that's
equal parts action, intellect and humor and that earns its place in
the pantheon of great comic book adaptations.

Watching unhappily married couples is a bit like watching
toddlers wrap Christmas presents with newspaper. After years of
Scotch-taping the ever-widening gaps between star-crossed love and
cold familiarity, many married couples find themselves desperately
searching for some way to ditch without making the other person
suffer '¦ like poisoning them. That's the painless solution Harry
(Chris Cooper) devises in director Ira Sachs' new film, Married
Life."" While the film does add some tangy humor and irony to the
infidelity genre, it would have worked better if its characters
weren't so much like their marriages - mismatched and lifeless.

Anyone familiar with the Opheum's high stage knows it can make
bands seem godlike, and that was certainly the case Monday night
when Okkervil River opened for the New Pornographers. Okkervil
River came out swinging with Black,"" starting the night on a
powerful note. The sensational hour that followed was filled with
beautiful, yet wild music. Will Sheff's resonant voice was only
matched by the band's vivid lyrics. Horn blasts, classic slide
guitar and good old rock 'n' roll permeated through the antique
theater.

When I was in seventh grade, 13-year-old boys were
representative of everything wonderful in the world: adrenaline,
budding sexuality and really smelly gym clothes. Eight years ago,
being trapped in a dark room for a half hour with about 30 of them
would be a gift from God. Now, not so much.

I'm not sure about the rest of campus, but around Lakeshore, the
kids in Short Course have a wild reputation. For them, college was
a 16-week vacation from the farm, and they loved every minute of
it.

Brains aren't everything. Smart People"" offers a
father/daughter pair of misanthropic academics as they come to
terms with their humanity. From the same people who brought
""Sideways"" to theaters, this highbrow comedy banks on superb
character sketching and a solid cast to deliver a comedy that
manages to make even the most self-involved characters likeable in
the end.

For the first time in 16 years, the B-52's have released a new
album. A band can change a lot after such a long silence, and they
have - but only a little bit. For the most part, they are as
wonderfully catchy and wildly unique as they have ever been.

With a multitude of ethnic food options available on State
Street, it seemed only a matter of time before Spanish tapas were

According to the calendar, it's spring. Although the snow on the
ground may argue otherwise, now is the time for rebirth and
regrowth. The time for new beginnings. The time to take expensive
trips to exotic locations while drinking heavily without regard for
standards of deceny or morality.
