It's sort of fun to see this campus engaged in a good
old-fashioned abortion debate. You walk around campus and you can
see the word sitting just behind people's lips, as if they might
blurt out ABORTION!"" if you asked them the time. Mount Abortion
had been lying dormant for a while. Unless you were a single-issue
McCain voter, it had been lost in the roar of the economic crisis,
gay marriage and Miley Cyrus' side boob (!). But now, thanks to the
quiet retirement of a Planned Parenthood doctor, aborted fetuses
are back on the menu - the menu of pertinent issues, that
is.

Although several interesting things happened in the world of
sports since the middle of December, one specific incident sticks
out in my mind. I could not help but laugh when I found out that
New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was fined $10,000 for
unsportsmanlike conduct.

Hello Food readers! I'm Claire, one of the new food columnists
to grace this wonderful section. When introducing something new, I
have always heard the best place to start is the beginning.
Although this is a brand new semester, the end of 2008 is still
within reach of our memories. And when it comes to food, don't most
people have their best food near the END of the year?

In Sunday's matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the
Cincinnati Bengals, the NFL had its first tie game since 2002 and
only its sixth in the past two decades. The frequency of tie games
in the NFL is so minimal that Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb
said after the game, I've never been part of a tie. I never even
knew it was in the rulebook."" Although the novelty of such a
phenomenon is fun for fans and analysts alike to discuss in the
ensuing week, the rarity of a tie actually happening in the NFL is
a blessing for the league, and a sign that sudden-death overtime
works.

I woke up on the floor of a strange bathroom. I saw urinals; a
men's bathroom. Good. Where am I? I asked myself. Why was I passed
out in a bathroom? I checked my pants; dry, buttoned, still on me.
Good. This was weird, though. Pushing open one bathroom door and
then a second, I found myself standing at the top of two flights of
stairs with a platform-like overhang to my left. It seemed I was in
some sort of strange facility. I headed down the stairs.

It has been over a decade since Converge and Pig Destroyer
established themselves as the kings of hardcore/metal music.
Although their music has suffered none from age and it's highly
unlikely either will be dethroned anytime soon, fans of aggressive
music had been patiently waiting for the new wave of sounds to
emerge.

John Barton and Kenneth Cavender's The Greeks"" marks the first
time that the Madison Repertory Theatre partners with faculty and
graduate students from UW-Madison's Department of Theatre and
Drama. This historic collaboration takes place on the Playhouse
stage, the smallest of the Overture Center's three theaters.
Although most of the actors and crew members are fellow Badgers,
the play turns out to be as powerful as if it were done by the
professionals of Madison Rep.

July.

Electric Six have released some funky tunes in the last five

While attending a wedding this past weekend, I started flipping
through the hymnal in front of me. I have always been fascinated by
the way churches use music to represent their views of God and how
much of the greatest classical music was written specifically for
church services.

With only a couple of weeks until Halloween, moviegoers can
expect to be inundated with a slew of horror films, all depicting
varying levels of terror, gore and gruesome violence. Yet, all of
these cringe-worthy films manage to elicit an R"" rating from the
Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), whereas one movie
scheduled for release this Halloween, Kevin Smith's ""Zach and Miri
Make a Porno,"" was almost given an NC-17 rating due to the frank
sexual nature of the film.

When it comes to global issues, I know what's important, where I
stand and if it matters to key men I'm interested in, but I won't
actually get involved. That requires a personal sense of
responsibility that I just don't have. You won't find me protesting
immigration policy clutching a messenger bag decorated with pins.
And being that I am a cheapass, I will definitely not be giving
anyone a donation - whether it's for a noble cause, such as saving
the rainforest, or for something outrageous like fighting the war
against hot air ballooning.

There has been very little in the way of good economic news in
the last year - especially in the last few months. In less than a
year, unemployment has increased 1.4 percent. The number of
unemployed persons has increased by 2.2 million with long-term
unemployment rising to 728,000. Our national debt has almost
doubled to over $10 trillion in less than 6 years and our financial
stability grows ever more precarious.
