Lately, I've had a creeping worry that the Internet will be the
death of everything beautiful, patient and human. I look around at
dead-eyed freshmen stroking their smart phones, and I can't help
but ge but get this self-righteous indignant lump in my throat.
Humanity isn't worthy of getting everything instanteously. I don't
think we can handle the responsibility.

In the wake of a great economic downturn, Wisconsin has stepped
up to the plate. From January through September, Wisconsin's
agriculture exports increased 24 percent. Last year at this time,
Wisconsin exported $1.7 billion in goods, which is child's play
compared to the more than $2 billion in goods exported this
year.

There was plenty to talk about following Wisconsin's 85-31
season-opening win over Kennesaw State. From the record-tying first
half in which the Badgers only gave up eight points to the 54-point
margin of victory, their largest since 2006, the season opener was
certainly a wake up call to a UW fanbase heading into yet another
season not knowing what to expect.

Let me get this out in the open. Yes, I am from Minnesota
originally. And yes, I went to North Dakota for my first two years
of undergrad (I know, I know. Sioux’s a girl’s name).

Notoriously crude, boorish director Bret Ratner (creator of
cinematic masterpieces like "Rush Hour 3") made a complete ass out
of himself at the premier of his new under-performing flick "Tower
Heist" by commenting in a Q&A that "Rehearsals are for fags."
This happened the same week as Ratner talked sleazily about
sleeping with actress Olivia Munn on the "Howard Stern Show," only
to admit a few days later that he lied about it all.

Through the first month of the season, the Wisconsin men’s
hockey team (3-3-0 WCHA, 4-4-0 overall) has surpassed the
expectations many had for it coming into this year.

they could not come away with a victory.

The undead rumor creeping around Hollywood lately is that zombies
are becoming the new vampires—they're on the rise, if you will—and
stealing our hearts as the new supernatural pop culture
fixation.

Feeling tired, run-down or out of energy? Does that triple-shot
espresso not get you going in the morning? Do you wake up feeling
unrefreshed and constantly need to press the snooze button? Can't
explain your sudden increase in belly fat? Do you find that your
memory and concentration just aren't there?

The populist revolution has swept across the Atlantic and stoked
the flames of discontent in several American cities, most notably
New York. From the Egyptian struggle against oppression that echoed
loud from Tahrir Square to the heroic standoff at
Benghazi, and from a Hazare-led fasting against
corruption in India to the Greek protests against austerity
measures, the world's population has been fighting against
oppression in all shapes and sizes. A commonnality
exists among these seemiingly varied movements—most of
these revolutionary events have been populist in nature,
representing the majority population against a minority of
extremely powerful people who call all the shots. It may be the
first time in history that a number of localized revolutions have
had such a common defining character.

With Oscar season ahead, 2011 is looking more and more like the
year of the Gosling. In the wake of her Best Actress Oscar win for
""Black Swan"", this was promising to be Natalie Portman's year in
the spotlight as Hollywood's darling. After all, Portman had no
less than three movies hit theaters this year.

Congress began debating the future of US foreign aid last week,
with many legislators seeking to cut funding in light of current
federal budgetary constraints. Despite the nation's weak economy
and poor outlook for recovery, cutting foreign aid is simply the
wrong answer—especially in light of America's waning influence in
world affairs. Both the Senate and House of Representatives have
proposed reductions in the $60 billion State Department budget
ranging from $12 billion in the House plan to $8 billion in the
Senate plan. The reduced budget would force the State Department
to spend on operations and security, leaving little money left over
for humanitarian assistance.

The ""Occupy Wall Street"" movement, a protest against economic
inequality that started in New York and has spread to other major
U.S. cities, is coming to Madison Friday evening.

I have aspired to be a disc jockey ever since I was a
young kid. Local LA radio personalities like KRTH
101's ""Real"" Don Steel and 95.5 KLOS' Uncle Joe
Benson were consistently on the family radio during my childhood.
Growing up, I began to develop an admiration for such on-air
personalities: they just sounded so smooth, so cool as they talked
about music. These guys, Shotgun Tom and Uncle Joe, were all about
keeping the oldies alive during the 1990s. Because of
my youthful exposure to the FM throwback stations, it became my
prime objective in life to be heard on the airwaves.
