“Jump Around” or beers on the Terrace? Plaza Tavern or Paul’s Club? J.J. Watt or Frank Kaminsky? Gettin’ it on in the Memorial Library cages or on top of Bascom Hill? You got to decide in the latest edition of The Daily Cardinal’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

While Chance The Rapper’s name tops the bill for the 2015 Revelry Music and Arts Festival, that energy and excitement will peak with the next name in line, New York DJ/producer/songwriter duo The Chainsmokers. They have seen their place in the electronic music industry skyrocket over the last few years in the wake of several busy festival seasons, a slew of remixes and infectious singles like their notorious “#SELFIE.”

The Majestic Theater hosted an eclectic, sold-out crowd March 23 for one of the industry’s truest renaissance men, California producer/musician/visual artist Scott Hansen, better known as Tycho. While Hansen has been writing and producing albums as Tycho for over a decade, he now tours with a full band and an artistically thoughtful visual show that he designed himself. Tycho, every bit as accomplished a graphic artist as he is a musician, has been producing visual art for years under the name ISO50. Following in the wake of his 2014 album Awake, Tycho brought his unique blend of ambient post-rock and synth music on the road with a coherent vision that translated perfectly into his new live show.

This week I’ve decided to count down my top five favorite artsy Twitter accounts that if you aren’t already following you should.Twitter is my favorite social media site. That said, it was hard for me to keep it to five. I could write a dissertation on what things I like on Twitter. I also struggled because a lot of the accounts I follow on Twitter are funny to me because as a female the tweets are relatable. However I want my column to be readable and useful to both genders and everyone in between. These accounts I picked are mostly funny, but some are inspirational or just generally useful to brighten up your day and diversify your timeline.

Mobility is a privilege that the majority of us take advantage of in every waking moment of our lives right now. Strolling the streets with pumpkin spice something, jogging in winters that seem inappropriate, even running through the six (or to catch the six) with our collective woes.

As the warm air finally found it’s way to Madison everyone came out of hibernation. Between the Big Ten tournament hype and wonderful weather on the Terrace everybody was looking to take to the streets at night, but if you weren’t headed to Union South Friday night you missed out on a good show. Mod Sun based out of Bloomington, Minnesota brought his crew of rappers in the good old RV as part of their “Look Up” tour. It was hard not to like the vibes rolling through the crowd the entire night with the hippy-hop that was going on. Some kid's mom was even in the back of the crowd jamming the entire show.

Unless my eyes deceive me (and my ears, and [just for the heck of it] my tongue as well), it’s springtime! And what a lovely time!

To many Madisonians, Saturday came as a welcomed break from the frigid winter with the sun high above us giving everyone a reason to be outside.

Do you ever have one of those days where it feels as though all of your mistakes have caught up to you? You know those mornings when you wake up wishing you could take back that stupid thing you did last weekend, or thinking you should call your mom more often or contemplating an attempt to finish that calculus assignment that was due last week? Those mornings where it feels as though you wake up to a mountain of thoughts all disorderly jumbled inside your head? About two weeks ago, I had one of those mornings.

College Court was not at the top of my go-to destinations list. I had a lot of enemies there. Or maybe I hoped I had a lot of enemies there. The line gets sort of blurry.

I have always maintained that, on many occasions, the love and enthusiasm of a well-unified fan base is every bit as important to a band’s live experience as the live show itself. Last Friday was one of those times. When Lotus stopped in Madison to kick off the second leg of their Gilded Age Tour, perhaps their most exciting headlining tour to date, the Orpheum Theatre was lucky to host some of the most enthusiastic fans of any music scene. Of course, that’s not to say the band didn’t do their part as well. Supported on the bill by Turbo Suit, Lotus hit the stage early and played two full sets laden with incredible musicianship and the extravagant light show that most fans have come to expect from the band.

After months of escalating hype, CRASHprez—who’s slowly assuming the mantle of curator of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s quietly bustling musical underground—has finally dropped his more perfect. project, a sprawling magnum opus exploring the black condition in America as seen through the eyes of a particularly discerning and articulate college student-cum-artist—or do I have that backwards?

A road trip is more than traveling from point A to B. Like everything around us it can be just that, simply a route to travel to reach somewhere, but sometimes, it can encompass the entirety of American mythology regarding road trips within it and be so much more. It ceases to be a route to get somewhere and takes the form of an adventure, one that takes you on uncharted water and exposes you to unexpected things. There is nothing quite like having the late afternoon sun kissing your face, the wind dancing through your hair and the great expanse of a road in front of you, waiting for you to envelope it. It is the epitome of ways to find yourself at this time in your life, to drive away in your car, alone or with a few friends, and let your mind think and dream in ways you didn’t know were possible. Regardless of the reasons, it will bring you the clarity you so desperately need. Better yet, it will bring you much more.

Unless you are completely obsessive like me, you probably didn’t wake up at 6 a.m. Sunday to catch the soccer game between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. By missing this game, you missed the latest installment of the Harry Kane saga, Tottenham’s cult hero who can’t be stopped.

A butterfly flaps its wings somewhere and a hurricane ravages an entire area elsewhere. There might be days where everything about us feels small, insignificant and unnecessary. It is difficult to fathom what our being here really means or contributes in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes can all feel like the hypnotic chug-chug of a train rolling down old wooden tracks; the courses, clubs, weekends, games. Rolling down the same path it always has, making the same sounds and traveling the same route. It isn’t morbid but human curiosity to wonder what the world would be like if we hadn’t been pushed out, squalling and terrified from the first moment, into it.

On February 27, the Orpheum will host Lotus on The Gilded Age Tour, with special guests Turbo Suit (formerly known as Cosby Sweater). Lotus’ live show, made possible by some of the most talented and dedicated musicians in the industry, will carry the momentum of the band’s most recent album, Gilded Age, released last fall. Since their formation in 1999, Lotus have refined their sound, toured relentlessly and built a loyal and enthusiastic fan base. Now, more than fifteen years later, I spoke with guitarist and keyboardist Luke Miller about Lotus, Gilded Age and what lies ahead for the band amid a very exciting time in their career.
