You’re perched atop Vilas Hall on an edge of the rooftop. The campus sprawls out beneath you, stray pedestrians going about their day. A perceptive woman notices you. The two of you wave, and then the woman returns to her business. It takes a while, but when classes end you’re still up there. The doors open and the sidewalks start to fill. Give it about 30 seconds. Then, after the crowds of people make it difficult to see the sidewalk below you, take the pebble you brought with you and throw it.

“Annihilation” is a melting pot. It’s quite difficult to compare it to a singular film that might capture its mood and personality. It carries the same cerebral, ominous tones that were signature traits in director Alex Garland’s previous hit, “Ex Machina,” and now bleeds into the increasingly horrific expedition via our protagonist crew.

The DNR received a straddling community diversion application from the city of Racine on January 26, 2018, and has begun reviewing the application. The city of Racine requests to divert up to an annual average of 7 million gallons of water a day in the straddling community, the village of Mount Pleasant. The diversion area includes part of the area identified by Racine County as the future site of the Foxconn facility. The application identifies that all wastewater, less an allowance for consumptive use of 2.7 million gallons a day, will be returned to the Lake Michigan basin via the Racine wastewater treatment plant.

Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name” takes the audience on a whimsical journey of romance and sexual curiosity. The film — based on André Aciman’s novel of the same name — beautifully portrays the worry-free summers of Northern Italy during the early 1980s. The gorgeous countrysides and romantic piano soundtrack surround the fascinating and erotic relationship between the 17-year-old Elio Perlman, played by the impressive Timothée Chalamet, and 24-year-old Oliver, portrayed by the charming Armie Hammer. While the story occasionally draws itself out, the film was both compelling and visually stunning, especially for the viewers who focus on each nuance of the meticulous script.

Last year, “Stranger Things” was the unexpected frontrunner of the entire TV industry. Relying mostly on word-of-mouth and Netflix’s algorithm, it catapulted into fame without much of a marketing push, which is a true testament to just how good it was. It also meant the showrunners, the Duffer Brothers, had a mountain of expectations to meet the second time around. Along with everyone else in the world, I was a huge fan of the first season, so when I sat down to binge the second season this weekend, I couldn’t help but have this feeling of dread. Though not without its flaws, “Stranger Things 2” is magnificent.
