Let's face it. If you're reading this, you're probably not
expecting to read about the United States' foreign policy, a better
understanding of quantum physics or find stock tips. Odds are you
think waterboarding is some sort of awesome extreme sport (or sex
position), you spend most of your time contemplating the shape of
your belly button and you can barely even read, let alone grasp the
aforementioned concepts.

When music is discussed or written about, it usually boils down
to an argument of whether it's really good or really bad, since
frankly it's boring to discuss music that's just so-so. But how do
you really define quality"" in an art form where the bad is the
most popular, the mediocre is the most ubiquitous and the good
survives only in opposition to what it's not?

Newly elected representatives of Associated Students of Madison
issued a release Sunday citing a five-point mission to improve ASM

vague - focusing on issues of higher education.""

Anyone who's got an ear turned to the behind-the-scenes turmoil
of the music industry knows that it's been nudged to a precipice of
uncertainty; perhaps it's even been pushed over the edge. The heart
of the matter is that people are consuming more music now than
ever, but instead of walking out of stores with CDs, most are
stuffing hard drives with the modern culmination of what CDs first
introduced - digital music in the form of binary bits and bytes.

In high school, there was one class project that was always met
with widespread enthusiasm: the video. In an atmosphere where
narcissism reigns supreme, the popularity of watching oneself
onscreen comes as no surprise. However, with these projects came
the inevitable inside jokes - the videos were only entertaining for
those that made them. Be Kind Rewind,"" a story of homemade videos,
suffers a similar fate.

Steroids have been all the rage in the media lately, and after
the total abomination that was Roger Clemens' hearing last
Wednesday, it doesn't seem far-fetched for other athletes named in
the Mitchell Report to admit their own guilt in hopes of being seen
as the remorseful, misled athlete rather than the egotistical,
uncontrollable maniac that Clemens came off as.

As a liberal living in Madison, I have never really found myself
in the political minority. That was until recently when I found
myself, a Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., supporter, wading in the
middle Obama-mania that seems to have swept through Madison.

It's fun to decipher meanings from the songs that presidential
candidates are spinning at their rallies. Actually, it's funny that
pop music is played by these White House hopefuls in the first
place - somehow it's difficult to imagine presidents with iPods,
playlists or a desire to share their taste in music with a huge
audience.

As one of the most significant and trend-setting albums of the
'90s, Beck's post-modern opus, Odelay, is the latest to
get the deluxe edition"" treatment. Packed with an extra disc of
stellar b-sides and rarities, including two previously unreleased
tracks, the release is a great example of why it's easy to rejoice
in tricked out reissue albums: They're fun to look at and they
motivate you to once again contemplate, in the broader context of
auxiliary tracks and fresh liner notes, a loved album that may have
fallen by the wayside.

It's 2008, but I'm still reeling from all the music of 2007.

Gov. Jim Doyle warned Wisconsin residents that challenging days
are ahead"" in his annual State of the State address held at the
State Capitol Wednesday. These challenging days are in reference to

recent accomplishments and major goals in contributing to the

Of students who have heard of Charles Nelson Reilly, most can

Even though Emile Hirsch dies at the end of Into the Wild,"" I
found myself leaving the theater strangely enamored. Deciding to
