Coach Bret Bielema and the UW coaching staff were faced with
several tough decisions before announcing the depth chart for
Saturday's opener against the Northern Illinois Huskies. It's
likely that the public was slightly thrown off by a depth chart
that includes shared duties at both quarterback and running
back.

During the off-season, the top question on most fans' minds was
simple: who starts at quarterback?

A major storyline of fall camp for Wisconsin centers on the
indefinite suspensions of senior defensive backs Shane Carter and
Aubrey Pleasant, but the Badger secondary is not fretting about the

Hello Badgers! Welcome back to a new semester. I'm excited to be
back, filling this section with commentary on the culinary world. A
great thing about Wisconsin is the array of seasonal foods that are
best enjoyed fresh. Unfortunately, most of our seasons are filled
with cold. However, from June through August we can finally break
out the shorts, swimming suits and sunglasses and enjoy the freshly
grown goodies.

Wisconsin began last season with dreams of capturing its first
Big Ten title since 2000 and playing in the Rose Bowl, largely
because of its talented and experienced defense. But in 2008 the
defensive unit was mediocre and inconsistent. With the departure of
six opening-day starters from last year, the Badgers will need high
levels of production from inexperienced players and improved play
from returning starters to be successful in 2009.

The Friday night fish fry is the place to be in my hometown
during Easter weekend. Almost the entire community comes out for
good friends, good food and great times. It's one of the town's big
social events of the year.

In Götz Spielmann's romantic thriller, ""Revanche,"" revenge is
a dish best cooled by hot sex, incessant wood chopping and soul
searching. Screened at the Wisconsin Film Festival this weekend and
nominated for Best Foreign Film at this year's Academy Awards,
""Revanche"" is like a knotted piece of wood, entangling its
characters and crisscrossing themes—from revenge and faith, to
guilt and uncertainty—while presenting a nearly impenetrable sense
of morality.

From their artsy, whistle-laden world, Peter Bjorn and John
deliver its latest album, Living Thing. Though the Swedish
indie-pop trio had been around for roughly a decade before the
success of their 2006 single ""Young Folks"" catapulted them into a
world of mainstream radio stations and ""Grey's Anatomy""
soundtracks. With Living Thing, Peter Bjorn and John are out to
show that they are not a one-hit wonder destined to be torn apart
by VH1 commentaries of the future.

Something scary happened while I was waiting in line outside

Over the past twelve months, the unemployment rate has risen 2.7
percent, leaving 4.1 million Americans jobless. Without a source of
income, it can be difficult to pay the mortgage, the car payment
and even the grocery bill, which is why over 28 million people have
turned to food stamps. The food stamp program, more recently known
as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is helping
millions of Americans keep food on the table. While most of them
are grateful for the money they are given to spend on food, it is
often not enough to purchase quality, nutritious items.

Wisconsin's last matchup against Minnesota brings up painful
memories for UW, an overtime loss in which the Badgers surrendered
a six-point lead with under a minute left in regulation. On
Wednesday night, the UW men's basketball team (9-7 Big Ten, 18-10
overall) will have a chance for redemption when they travel to
Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers (8-8, 20-8).

Sweat drips from my brow as I stare blankly at the page. Think
Megan, think! What the hell is the biological species concept? Why
does this crab have a non-functioning claw? Why the hell do I care
about these stupid fricking lizards on an undiscovered island?! I
slam my head on the desk in despair.
