Every four years, U.S. citizens across the country wait in winding lines, patiently standing back-to-back as they prepare to cast their ballots for a presidential election. Yet, when the COVID-19 pandemic arose in March 2020, the days in which strangers could stand less than six feet apart or share an unmasked smile with other voters quickly vanished. While some still opted to vote in person in the 2020 Presidential Election, others cast their vote via absentee ballots in record numbers to avoid the risks associated with contracting the virus.

In what seems to be an increasingly frequent occurrence, the NCAA has been making headlines as its dated and oppressive practices are finally being legitimately questioned. Of course, once Americans’ craving for sports outweighs their curiosity about social justice, as it eventually does every time the NCAA is put on the hot seat, the organization will resume its status as the unopposed facilitator of college sports.

National Railroad Passenger Corporation Amtrak released an “aspirational” 15 year proposal Wednesday to connect Madison to a series of railways that would span the nation. Amtrack’s proposal comes just before president Biden unveiled a massive $2 billion infrastructure project that almost certainly will allocate funds towards railway transportation.

The Public Safety Review Committee voted to recommend that the City Council not pursue using body cameras for Madison Police officers. The City of Madison had allocated $83,000 for a pilot project that would purchase body cameras, in addition to another $50,000 that would be required to process the footage recorded by the cameras.

In preparation for our first fully online semester of college, my roommates and I sprung for the faster of the AT&T and internet packages. This package included a complimentary subscription to HBO Max. While the speed of the wireless connection may have been overstated, HBO’s vast library of original content became a TV staple in my apartment. I watched several recommended titles in the early months, but no show has quite dominated my binging hours like The Sopranos.

This season has thrown everything but the kitchen sink at No. 5 Wisconsin (19-8-1, 17-6-1 Big Ten) — a delayed start, COVID-19 cancellations, multiple injuries and World Junior Championship player absences. They came into the season ranked fifth in the Big Ten, ahead of only Michigan State and Penn State. But they didn’t let any of that stop them, as they came out as regular season Big Ten Champions and top of the leaderboards in multiple categories.
