An unfortunate truth of life is that in order for comedy to exist, there must also be comedians. Luckily, most of the time, comedians stay away from the well-adjusted public. They hide themselves away for hours on end in writers’ rooms in places like Los Angeles, New York City or a windowless office in the basement of Vilas Hall on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

On Sept. 11, 2001, the United States suffered a terrorist attack so earth-shattering that life as it was known changed forever. Even 21 years later, 9/11 is an ever-present factor in politics, culture and day-to-day life. One would be hard-pressed to find a news source that isn’t running a commemorative story on each year’s anniversary.

The May 24 shooting at a Uvalde, TX elementary school has been added to the list of at least 2,032 school shootings that have taken place in the United States since 1970. The next day, Gov. Abbott (R-TX) appeared with officials including Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin and Sen. Ted Cruz to speak about the tragedy.

On Monday, news broke that University of California, Los Angeles law school dean Jennifer Mnookin has been named the 30th chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, replacing Rebecca Blank after nine white-hot years — at least until Bucky and Becky had a falling out, as reported by The Daily Cardinal.

In the eyes of many aspiring investors, the stock market and investing in general can seem, despite the allure, a nebulous and convoluted place where investment decisions are made by Wall Street professionals who enjoy the use of data most people don’t have access to. Hedge funds and firms spend fortunes to procure the types of data that enable them to make smart investment decisions, but retail investors who don’t have that kind of cash are often left in the dust.
