Why would anyone want to become a politician? It seems to me to
be a lot of hard work. First, you have to figure out how to speak
your mind without committing to anything concrete. You must dig up
mud on your opponents while hiring document shredders to make sure
that no one can find that photo of you with that prostitute 30
years ago. And when you finally get elected, you have to learn how
to navigate the corruption and scheming that fills Capitol
Hill.

""Catch a Fire"" likely won't tell any educated person anything
they don't already know about South African apartheid, but it's a
powerful film nonetheless. There's a scene where Patrick Chamusso
(Derek Luke) screams in anguish at his white captors, telling them
whatever they want to hear, and it's an utterly believable, hellish
moment. Yes, this movie tries to be about a great historical
struggle. Yet it centers on one man doing what he needs to do to
stand up for himself and his family.

At 2:00 a.m., pre-daylight savings time Sunday morning, the 500
Block of State Street looked like a bad case of dAcjA vu. A
frenzied crowd of partiers alternatively chanted ""Fuck the
police"" and ""We want tear gas"" while throwing chunks of pumpkin
and debris from the street.

A lunchroom beating and a woman's threat to stab a 12-year-old
Madison middle school student have focused the city's attention on
school safety for the second time in less than a week.

A lot of things seem to be coming to an end right now. Maybe
it's the season. First is the downfall of legendary mega-sized CD
chain Tower Records. I guess alongside Yankees pitchers' planes,
school shootings and a congressional pedophilia scandal, a company
bankruptcy isn't all that sexy, but it's a big deal for the music
industry and signals, as Dylan said, that the times they are
a-changin'.

With the Homecoming football game quickly approaching, I thought
I'd bestow some of my senior wisdom upon the Badger

Thinking about going to Chicago? Wishing you could at least
think about going to Chicago but rent is due next week and you're
still trying to scrounge up some cash? Well, stop thinking and
listen up: this glamorous city is not only for the likes of Paris
Hilton, but college students on a budget. The opportunities are
endless, and endless cash is not a requirement.

The teams headed to the playoffs in Major League Baseball aren't
completely finalized yet, but the one definitive fact we already
know is that for the sixth-consecutive season there won't be a
repeat champion. With the success of the Yankees in the late 90s,
the lack of a repeat champion this decade seems somewhat
surprising, but GM's should consider one reality: Baseball has
evolved into a game where team chemistry and momentum overrides
pure talent and power.

With mainstream music in such a sad condition, it takes a lot of
guts to be in a band like the Mars Volta. Their self-indulgent
psycho-psychedelic-salsa-laced-modern-progressive sound doesn't go
over well with your average Fergie fan, but The Mars Volta's
founding members—guitar virtuoso Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and vocalist
Cedric Bixler-Zavala—really do not give a damn.

A proposed UW-Madison plan to revoke season tickets from unruly
fans may affect the way students buy and sell tickets. At the crux
of the issue is the stipulation that season ticket holders are
responsible for the actions of any person who occupies their seat.

Breckenridge Dark Oatmeal Stout is not a beer for those stuck on

With the Badgers getting ready to face off in the Frozen Four
tonight, Cardinal Food decided to review a quintessential
sports-game food—buffalo wings. With a team of wing experts and
novices, the Food staff banded together and consumed enough spicy
chicken to melt the ice rink at the Kohl Center. But it was all for
you, readers, so please, enjoy the reviews now and some buffalo
wings later tonight.3:30 p.m.—The adventure commences on a drizzly,
chilly day, and the group is ready to heat up with some hot, spicy
buffalo wings. The first stop, State Street Brats, 603 State St.,
allows customers to order at the counter, and a waiter brings the
food to the table.

time ever.

Do not be intimidated by the title of Scottish DJ Myles
Macinnes' debut album. Recorded under the moniker Mylo, Destroy
Rock & Roll finds its method of destruction through
straightforward electronica bliss. Already a sensation in the UK,
the collection first reached U.S. shores in early February, just in
time to warm up even the most frozen dance-music enthusiasts.
