While many of my classmates were off to exciting locales and
carefree escapades for break, I returned home to enjoy the
nothingness that is southwest Wisconsin. There would be no Mexican
misadventures, no Floridian frolicking and absolutely nothing would
happen in Vegas, so it could all just stay there.

Before entering the more self-serious time of early teenhood, my
friends and I tuned in to Minneapolis' Top 40 radio station after
school most days of the week. While waiting to satisfy our fix for
Third Eye Blind, we received the following message about every 15
minutes:

Finally, Warner Bros. has produced a movie far more atrocious
than their pre-summer release of two years ago, Wolfgang Petersen's
Poseidon."" Epic movies seem to be in vogue in Hollywood now, and a
movie set in prehistory could have been the perfect venue for
action, adventure and a whole lot of fun, but woolly mammoths and
sabertooth tigers do not save ""10,000 B.C."" from being a
formulaic, insipid movie that fails even as a passably entertaining
popcorn flick.

A story: One of the movies I couldn't wait for last year was one
that I now can't stand the thought of seeing again. When you see as
many movies as I do each year, and only turn off one mid-watching,
that's something else.

EVANSTON, Ill. - As a sea of red covered Welsh-Ryan Arena and
shouts of Big Ten Champs"" drowned out the faint whimpers of
""Let's go Cats,"" it was clear this Saturday in March would not be
remembered as Senior Day for the Northwestern Wildcats, but as the
day the Wisconsin Badgers won another regular season conference
championship.

Is this country getting emptier, or is it just me? A study
released last week might help explain this trend.

In response to Ryan Dashek's column Evolution should be taught
in classrooms,"" The article laid out three points: evolution is
science while creation is religion, teaching anything other than
evolution in classrooms would be detrimental to student development
and belief in evolution does not necessarily equate a disbelief in
God.

Although Wisconsin enters the postseason in third place in the
WCHA standings, its chance at a third straight regular season
conference title may hinge on the eligibility of a Minnesota Duluth
player.

Vantage Point"" serves as a cautionary tale for anyone who
thinks they have a fresh and brilliant take on film storytelling:
If you're going to do something original, make sure it's watchable
first.

Whether to allow creationism to be taught in pre-collegiate
classrooms alongside evolution has been a hotly contested topic for
a long time.

Several semesters ago, when I abandoned half-a-dozen partially
completed majors to study music, I spent the first several months
patting myself on the back for having the modest courage to follow
my aspirations as far as the comfort zone of academia
allowed.

With the snow settling on Tuesday's presidential primary,
Wisconsin voters are waiting with fingers crossed for their
favorite candidate to win the Big One.

Wisconsin drivers who want to express themselves as AER0TK"" on

Transportation has a growing list of nearly 8,000 potential vanity

Herb Kohl has actually heard two State of the Union addresses
over the past couple of weeks. The more recent one had parts
released in advance and was blandly predictable. The other was more
eagerly awaited, with an uncertain delivery date.

The beginning of 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the Nazis'

UW-Madison students are always under attack for their drinking.
Usually, the criticism comes from within the university, where
administration and faculty are concerned about academic
performance. Occasionally, questions arise from within the police
department, where despite a penchant for ticketing house parties
there is also real concern for the safety of those drunkenly
strolling city streets late at night.

Though it would be at least another decade before I knew
Kosher"" as something more than a prefix for dill pickle spears and
table salt, by the age of six I had catalogued roughly one thousand
culinary misdeeds. Dividing the dinner plate into hermitically
sealed quarantine zones, I ordered around individual food groups
like the subjects of a fascist police state.

This semester has already got me down, and surprisingly it isn't
because of the ridiculously cold weather. As I spend my final
semester at UW-Madison, I find myself perpetually finishing up my
degree requirements. The science requirements bother me somewhat,
but I find that I often come away with some applicable knowledge.
The foreign language requirements, on the other hand, stick in my
craw.

UW-Madison senior Julie Auerbach cannot eat her favorite candy.
It is not that Starbursts are unhealthy or have too much sugar, but
they are not kosher. Starbursts contain gelatin, which is extracted
from an animal part considered un-kosher. Auerbach, who is Jewish,
has kept kosher all her life in following the Jewish laws of
kashrut, meaning suitable.""
