It goes without saying that college is a balancing act. Students have to cram classes, coursework, jobs or internships, extracurriculars and some semblance of a social life into a 24/7 schedule. For most, it’s ultimately manageable, but nonetheless a massive headache.

Over the winter recess myself and twenty-four others were fortunate enough to be selected for a leadership delegation trip to Israel. This trip’s goal was to expose us to Israeli culture and urge us to acknowledge the differences in lifestyles and perspectives in regards to geo-political issues (I was just wondering what they thought about our “executive” branch).

After last year’s Orange Bowl in which he threw four touchdowns and was named MVP, Alex Hornibrook looked poised to have a breakout 2018. The then-sophomore was set to lead an offense returning almost all of its starters and was protected by one of the best offensive lines in college football. This Wisconsin offense was going to be one of the greatest in program history.

Every so often, I hear someone joke that if you compliment a woman on her dress, there’s a 95 percent chance she will respond, “Thanks, it has pockets!”

As the skies get darker with winter approaching, a cloud of uncertainty also looms over the Wisconsin Badgers (4-2 Big Ten, 6-3 overall) as they get ready travel to Beaver Stadium in a showdown with the No. 21 Penn State Nittany Lions (3-3, 6-3). The Badgers are currently nine point underdogs, needing an upset to keep their faint Big Ten West hopes alive.

This summer I read Yossi Klein Halevi’s book, Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor. Each chapter is a letter directly addressed to his Palestinian neighbors, who live in the West Bank adjacent to his hometown in Jerusalem. His work is meant to show how the conflict appears through the eyes of an Israeli. He wrangles with the complex strands of faith, pride and politics that underpin the rift between Israelis and Palestinians.

If you’re in the know to any degree on the folk-punk-rock scene, last week’s performances at The Sett was the place to be. Beneath the umbrella of a painfully niche subgenre identity and amid the first round of anxiety-inducing midterms, students and Madisonians alike congregated around the crowd-control barriers — beers and cell phones in hand — to break out into song and dance with some of the biggest names in this snippet of the musical oeuvre.

There is little glamour to the governorship of a state — at least here in the Midwest. Many people see the position of governor as someone who appears on TV every once in a while to unveil grandiose plans that never seem to happen, or as someone who provides leadership only in times of trouble, such as during natural disasters.

Someday, I’d like to buy a house. That’s because I know that buying a house is more cost-effective than renting a house or apartment--plus, I just think it would be nice to own my own space and be able to renovate it and stuff like that. I know that part of the reason this is a good idea is that my home can increase in value over time. Except, I don’t understand why that is.
