It’s been nearly two years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, and many of us are – understandably – tired of it. Month after month of restrictions, limitations and the various impacts of COVID have left people exhausted, and often apathetic.
Over break, many college students utilize their more open-ended schedules to “catch up on sleep.” It’s a common phrase not only on college campuses but everywhere in a society that prioritizes productivity— where packed schedules and running from place to place reign supreme over rest. People boast on social media about hustling and “the grind”, seemingly alluding to the notion that some prosperous future awaits those who work, work, work, with no play.

When I first came to Madison for a college tour, my dad, a UW alum, introduced me to Mickies Dairy Bar. We sat at a booth over 50 years old, and ordered burgers, fries and malts. I didn’t finish my meal because Mickie’s portion sizes are gigantic, but lucky for me, this meant I got to leave with a full belly and an abundance of leftovers. Since then, Mickies has been my go-to breakfast and lunch spot while being a student at UW-Madison.

Everyone dreads getting calls from their jobs on off-days, with the ominous fear that they might ask you to come in and that your guilt will get the best of you. When you really need this one day off, the guilt leads you to succumb to working another shift.
Aimlessly scrolling through the student jobs catalog at 2:00 in the morning is inevitable for any undergraduate attempting to further their career. There are some excellent positions offered on behalf of the university; however, many of these jobs can be rather exclusive. A higher barrier to entry mixed with a low position count leaves many students with a “resume received” status under their application. The struggle of not having enough experience to access positions that build experience can serve as a discouraging cycle.

Despite my vegetarianism and general disdain for fishing in real life, I’ve somehow always been in love with the feeling of reeling in a virtual fish in a game. Not in those rugged, story-absent games like Big Bass Fishing, but through classic cozier games in the vein of Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing or Minecraft. Naturally, then, I was thrilled when Bunnyhug Studios announced Moonglow Bay, a game that finally takes the fishing theme of older games and makes it palatable for people like me, who wouldn’t step within 6 feet of a fishing rod in real life.
It seems the fourth time's the charm. After three rejected proposals, CoreSpaces, a nationwide real estate company, has been approved to build a third luxury apartment complex in downtown Madison. Past proposals were rejected by the Campus Area Neighborhood Association for reasons, such as improper prior management, impairing the historic character of the proposed site and creating barriers to affordable off-campus housing — to name just a few.

Every year, incoming freshmen at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are faced with a huge question: where should I live?
Lido Pimienta was an ethereal opener for an ethereal night. The Colombian-Canadian singer shocked the crowd when she entered the stage in an immaculate rainbow and metallic flowy dress that glowed against the stage lights. She further shocked the crowd when she opened her mouth and out tumbled her beautiful, almost angelic voice.
